As part of the Eagle House Group of schools, Eagle House School (Bramley) shares the Group value to Unlock the Potential of Children with Autism. For our school this means preparing them for the next steps in either education or employment by developing the skills they will need to thrive.
We set ambitious targets with a comprehensive review of their EHCP on entry into school; these long-term aims are broken down into focused targets over the short and medium term by the class team. Our provision develops key skills at each stage (see the end of this document for an overview) to prepare our pupils for a planned and successful transition.
Enabling our pupils to achieve their potential requires an individualised journey towards their future aspirations for education and employment. This may take different pathways, with common themes such as achieving qualifications in English and maths. Aims and aspirations are regularly reviewed at the Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) Annual Review beginning with a first meeting in the first half term of their placement.
Transition to Primary SEN Provision
for some of our pupils our intensive therapeutic environment introduces them to a safe experience of school, preparing them for transition to a less intensive Special School environment such as Eagle House School (Mitcham). This school has a larger peer group for pupils, enabling them to gain increasing independence and prepare them for future educational opportunities.
Transition to Secondary SEN Provision
for our older pupils, their destinations include transition to an SEN Secondary provision such as our sister secondary school in Sutton. This school has a broad range of qualifications on offer to pupils at KS4 including GCSEs and functional skills qualifications, enabling them to continue on their educational journey.
One potential transition for pupils later on in their journey is our 6th form in Carshalton. This specialist provision offers nationally recognised qualifications and opportunities to attend a mainstream Further Education (FE) college where young people can follow a course of their choice. We are therefore able to offer the right route of progression for each young person until age 19 years.
Any discussions about transition are held at a very early stage as part of the annual review of a pupil’s Education, Health, and Care Plan. We work closely with our Local Authority partners to identify ambitious trajectories for our pupils on their journey.
Eagle House 6th Form (Strawberry Lodge) is based in 19th-century house in Carshalton, Sutton, less than 10 minutes drive from the main school. It is a purpose-built specialist college providing a highly specialised and personalised provision for learners, which combines academic achievement, independence skills, and first steps in vocational training. Many of our learners struggle with the social challenges of attending a mainstream college but we’re here for each young person whenever they need us.
