Our setting
In the heart of picturesque Walton on the Hill village, we are surrounded by open fields, country walks and nature trails. We are also centrally placed a few minutes from the local shops, cafés and the village ponds.
Indoor spaces
Our large sports hall is fully equipped for a range of games and activities including sensory circuits, PE, drama, table tennis and our own climbing wall. We have a spacious library and a fully equipped science room. There are individual therapy rooms and a therapy pod. The children enjoy 3 separate play areas, 2 with age-appropriate play apparatus.
Outdoor space & recreation
Our campus is set within 5 acres of green space with our own large sports field, playgrounds and multi-use games area used for football, tennis or basketball. We fully utilise our rural location to the full, using the Forest school approach which is a nurturing, pupil-led exploration and discovery of the nature and environment around us. We have our own horticultural areas and we are in the process of acquiring our own chicken’s and two Shetland ponies.
Classroom design
The school opened in September 2019 after a major refurbishment to create light, attractive and spacious classrooms. Each class provides an individual TEACCH work station for every pupil, a reading corner, nurture space and a group working table. All classes have the latest IT technology and every child has access to their own iPad. Media is naturally very popular with the children and we have the use of iMacs and our own 3D printer.
Our School Nurse
We prioritise the importance of physical health alongside the mental wellbeing of our pupils. Our school nurse visits regularly to ensure health care plans for each of our pupils are current reflect their needs. Our nurse also supports staff, providing training on using specialist equipment where this is needed.
Animal-assisted Therapy
Animal-assisted therapy has a wide range of benefits, including: improving wellbeing and mental health, increasing movement and developing motor skills, developing social or behavioural skills, and increasing motivation toward activities such as exercise or interacting with others. Coco is very experienced as a therapy dog, having been doing this work for over 6 years now, and she absolutely loves her job working with the children. It is a delight to watch our pupil’s confidence and self-esteem grow as they develop and enter into the special, non-judgemental, accepting relationship that animals create, and the pride they display as they achieve their goals in their sessions with Coco.
Sport & Fitness
We have a dedicated teacher for PE who delivers lessons to all our pupils, incorporating team games and sports. Our fitness instructor, Tawana, delivers specialist sessions where the pupils have taken part in high intensity fitness training, Yoga and dance to develop their physical fitness. Tawana also offers dietary advice and guidance to support living a healthy lifestyle, which is particularly important for our pupils.
Healthy eating & the Bramley kitchen
Our lunchtimes are extremely popular with the children, many of whom arrive at school with very limited diets. Our talented chef combines fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create restaurant-quality meals every day. Pupils have access to a range of seasonal options and are encouraged to try new foods. We cater to all dietary needs and provide a wide range of options to entice the children to eat well and healthily. From pizza to ‘fish & chip Fridays’ there are always plenty of options, alongside the more adventurous choices such as swordfish or moussaka. Lunch is a fun and sociable event and staff and pupils eat together as one Bramley family.
