Autism in the home
Delivered by our in-house specialists and therapists, Eagle House Group is delighted to offer a regular rolling programme of free workshops throughout the school year. These workshops are packed full of ideas and will keep you up to date with the ‘latest thinking’ on how best to support your child or young person with autism; from primary age through to secondary.
Designed to be interactive and practical, our team of speech & language therapists, occupational therapists and behaviour specialists have designed hour-long sessions to give ideas and strategies to help you cope at home. Open to all families, every workshop has a ‘problem solving session’ where you can discuss your specific issues and overcome any difficulties you and your family may be struggling with.
Our workshops are held at both school sites; Eagle House (Mitcham) and Eagle House (Sutton), so do check where you need to be when you book your place.
Our rolling programme of autism workshops includes:
- Setting boundaries
Take the opportunity to explore and adapt Positive Behaviour Management in your own home. Our specialists will offer you practical advice and strategies on how to set those subtle boundaries with your child and how to minimise the ‘meltdowns’ and ‘behaviours’ you may be experiencing in your home.
- Getting what you want in SEN (Special Educational Needs)
This workshop is for all families who either have a statement of special educational needs for their child, or are in the process of moving across to a new Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP). In this workshop, we will take a closer look at the new process of SEN and the latest updates of EHCPs. We will explore what the new changes will mean to you and how you can get the best outcome for your child.
- Making sense of sensory difficulties
Come and learn to recognise which sensory difficulties your child has and discover how they can affect their lives and their learning.
Our highly interactive and practical workshop not only looks at how to identify your child’s sensory issues, but also gives you some very useful coping strategies that you can start to use as soon as you get home.
- Building the total communication package
Being specialists in autism, we use communication tools in our schools, which help develop and boost our learner’s communication skills. This exciting workshop looks at the latest strategies available to help modify and adapt communication. We explore which Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) methods can be effective for your child and increase your child’s ‘voice’.
